SciEngiMathePloration®

SciEngiMathePloration (easy to say, just let it roll off the tongue…Sci – N-Gee-Math-eh-Ploration) is ESD’s award winning children’s science TV show, now in its eighth year of production. The show is targeted to middle school kids and, using the resources of the ESD, gives them a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the many varied careers that engineers, scientists, and technicians enjoy. The show is hosted by ESD staff member Gary Ed Mach, along with a rotating cast of middle school “co-hosts.” Each show has a theme or topic, and past shows have included visits to the Fermi Nuclear Plant, the Henry Ford, Detroit Water Works, Oakland County’s “The Fridge” and Red Oaks Water Park, among many others.

Each show includes a hands-on experiment session where Gary and his co-host explore basic scientific theories and demonstrations. From time to time, Kula the Science Dog (a real Golden Retriever) makes an appearance to help illustrate a point or fetch things.

The show is currently seen in 20 states and 70 television markets reaching over 6 million homes form California to New Hampshire, North Dakota to Texas, and many places in between. We use the “public access” channels for distribution, which are part of the licensing obligations of cable television franchises. Therefore, the show is seen at a different time and on a different channel in every community. The best way to find us is to go to the website for your local cable provider and search for “Public Access” programming. If we are not on your TV, why not? A letter to your cable provider may help us continue to expand. The good news, is that we are on almost every public access station in Michigan. If you need help finding us, just give the ESD a call and we can help track it down. We can also supply a list of all of our broadcast outlets nationwide. Here is a partial list:
